Educational Objectives   

To provide the student with practical experience in the design and implementation of a dynamic student leadership program. Emphasis will be on leadership development programs, teaching leadership theory and concepts, supervising and advising student leaders, and developing leadership resources for student organizations.  The graduate intern will also gain additional experience in various aspects of program and event planning, assessment and instruction, and communication and organizational leadership.

Specific Responsibilities   

Work collaboratively with the Leadership Programs Coordinator on various programs and services.  As an integral part of the Cougar Leadership Team, the graduate intern will be involved in initiating, coordinating, and supporting leadership efforts on campus. 

Specifically, the Leadership Graduate Intern facilitates an undergraduate leadership program (Crimson VIP), facilitates a leadership series for WSU Global students, advises and assists students in coordinating and planning leadership programs and workshops, and assists in the development of resources for individuals and groups. 

The Leadership Graduate Intern will be expected to work 20 hours per week.

Supervisory Responsibilities

2-3 undergraduate student leadership facilitators

Work Requirements

  • Most work is performed in an office environment, but some activities will occur outside in any weather condition and includes night and weekend work.
  • Occasional travel off-campus to accompany student groups to retreats, events, and conferences.
  • Light lifting may be necessary on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to travel across campus and access various types of buildings.
  • Speech, visual, and hearing abilities that are sufficient to read and view written materials and effectively communicate and interact with WSU staff and the public—both in person and over the telephone. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and acceptance into WSU graduate program in Higher Education, counseling, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with programming, advising, and related issues.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of leadership concepts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and experience successfully advocating for diversity and the values of diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability in using current computer technologies (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), email, and the internet.

Pay and Benefits

Position receives an hourly wage, plus tuition waiver.  The employee is responsible for some benefits and service fees.
