Leadership Weekend

All those participating in Emerging Leaders are required to attend one Leadership Weekend. Due to exciting growth and demand for the program, students will have the option to attend one of two weekend retreats offered: September 8-10, 2017, or September 15-17, 2017.

The retreat also serves as an orientation allowing students to understand how to successfully complete the program. This weekend allows students to meet one another, participate in activities, and dive deep into leadership discussions, resulting in a better understanding of who you are as an individual leader.

All meals are included.

Emerging Leaders core sessions

To earn your certificate, you will need to attend five core sessions. These workshops are designed around the first three C's of the social change model: consciousness of self, congruence, and commitment. You will learn more about yourself and your leadership values, as well as how to be most successful in school and campus life at WSU. Specific topics include communication, delegation, time management, financial wellbeing, exploring values, happiness and cultural competency.

Additional 10 events or activities

These can be any activity listed in CougSync, such as joining a club, playing in an intramural sports game, or attending a guest speaker that your professor assigns as extra credit. Check out the calendar of events on CougSync for options. Make sure to select the "ALL" filter in the calendar to view all campus events.

Tracking participation and creating an e-portfolio

Don't worry! We will show you how to do this in the Emerging Leaders orientation and will have clear instructions for using Bring your CougarCard to events and swipe in (where applicable) and your participation will be automatically recorded. Some events may require that you track your activity in CougSync. By tracking your activity you will be able to create an e-portfolio that will complement your academics when creating your resume.

Apply for certificate of completion

This is the easy part. Be sure to apply for your leadership certificate before the deadline! See deadline in above chart.
