Overview

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) promotes student learning through curricular and co-curricular civic engagement.  Graduate students play a critical role in the development and leadership of the program, coordinating activities related to academic service learning, student involvement, community partnerships and programs.  The appointment may include an operating fee waiver (for tuition) and stipend.

The Community Partnerships Graduate Student Position, under the direction of the Community Partnerships Coordinator, is responsible for assisting with the development of opportunities for student civic engagement and service learning through partnerships with over 200 local community organizations.  In addition, the GA will assist staff with distant community partner opportunity development and support as needed.  This complex position involves developing and maintaining key community partner relationships, assisting partners with navigating the university/CCE structure and articulating organizational needs, tracking service outcomes and impacts and assessing possible risks.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of community involvement opportunities, including long-term placements, group service projects, and community development projects;
  • Assist in development of community partnerships:
    • Develop and sustain a system of tracking and maintaining community partnerships;
    • Assist with the development of site visit protocol including risk assessment and on-line system orientation;
    • Assist with the execution of a communication plan for community partners;
    • Outreach to community agencies and groups, with presentations as appropriate;
    • Participate in relevant assessment activities re: programs, services, and learning outcomes
  • Provide support and supervision of undergraduate student staff;
  • Contribute to and participate in CCE special events;
  • Participate in CCE staff activities: staff meetings, planning, public relations, campus meetings, etc.;
  • Collaborate with other coordinators and CCE professional staff;
  • Assessment of programs, services, and learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of service learning and civic engagement;
  • project/program planning and leadership experience;
  • superior organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • strong communication (verbal & written), problem solving, and interpersonal skills;
  • proven interest in issues of social justice, community service, and diversity;
  • familiarity with Microsoft office programs;
  • graduate student (must qualify for financial aid).

Preferred Qualifications

  • relevant academic program;
  • teaching/training experience;
  • supervisory experience;
  • knowledge of community organizations;
