Educational Objectives
With the support of their supervisor and other staff, the Graduate Assistant will provide the student with practical experience in design and implementation of activities that will complement the student entertainment board and its programming. Emphasis will be on event planning and implementation, leadership development and staff training, and input in the strategic planning and development of the organization. The graduate assistant will also gain additional experience in various aspects of risk management, communication, and organizational leadership.
Specific Responsibilities
The Graduate Assistant will assist the Arts Coordinator (SEB Advisor) in their responsibilities to the Student Entertainment Board. The Graduate Assistant’s duties will include but are not limited to developing and implementing training for the Student Entertainment Board directors, committee, and volunteers. The Graduate Assistant will support Student Entertainment positions and projects as assigned. Within their role, the Graduate Assistant will negotiate with artist/performers/agents/; will market and promote events; will implement, develop, and support students; will assist students through the university processes and procedures regarding budgets, contracts, and other items related to their events; will oversee the budget of their area; and provide professional development opportunities to the Student Entertainment Board. The Graduate Assistant will be involved in the oversight and leadership of the organization. They will assist with the planning, development, execution, and follow up to student lead event. The Graduate Assistant may be assigned additional advising roles for specific SEB directors if applicable and needed. The Graduate Assistant will support department and divisional committees, and programs as needed, as long as they do not interfere with their primary role.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Co-advisement of the Student Entertainment Board, program and event management, and supporting the students of the Student Entertainment Board.
Work Requirements
9 months, 20 hours/week* (Aug 1-May 15)
An average of 20 hours per week is expected throughout the academic year, INCLUDING periods in which no classes are held (Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring Break); but the schedule may be adjusted to account for those weeks and to schedule for some weeks involving more hours than others.*Position may begin earlier than notes if needed.
Tentative Breakdown of Duties
- 30% time Administrative- emails, meetings with supervisors, department, and division meetings, etc.
- 30% time Advisement- meeting with student directors, committees, supporting student and their organization goals.
- 30% time programing and event management- The event management at the actual program and the support leasing up to the event, during, and following the event.
- 10% Other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
- Most of the work is performed in an office environment but some activities will occur outside in any weather condition and include late night and weekend work.
- Occasional travel off-campus to accompany student groups to retreats, events, and conferences.
- Light lifting may be necessary on an occasional basis.
- Ability to travel across campus and access various types of buildings.
- Speech, visual, and hearing abilities that are sufficient to read and view written materials and effectively communicate and interact with WSU staff and the public—both in person and over the telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and acceptance into WSU Pullman-based graduate program.
- Ability to work 20 hours a week in a graduate assistantship position.
- Basic knowledge of and experience with programming, student organizations, advising, and related issues.
- Demonstrated commitment to, and experience successfully advocating for diversity and the values of diversity.
- Demonstrated ability in using current computer technologies (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), email, and the internet.
Preferred Qualifications
- Acceptance into WSU Pullman based graduate program in the Arts or an Education related program.
- Experience with student organization membership and/or advisement.
- Event planning experience.
- Experience with art management, contracts, and/or performers.
- Team leadership and/or management experience.
Pay and Benefits
Position receives an estimated $15,000 per academic year, plus in-state* tuition waiver.
Employee is responsible for some benefits and service fees. *Being a Washington state resident is not a requirement for this position, but the waiver is for the amount of in-state tuition only.
